The True Meaning of a Friend

Maybe we should focus more on how to be a friend rather than having friends.

The meaning of a friend has changed drastically in today's technologically linked society. Most of us really love to be informed and stay updated with what is happening in the lives of our old and current friends and even people we do not know personally whom we call our friends.

In terms of social media, a "friend" is generally used to depict contacts instead of relationships. You are capable  of sending your friends a message, but it is not the same as having a relationship with someone personally.

Most of the time, we focus on having friends that we tend to forgot how to be a friend.

There are many explanation on what it means to be a friend. Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said something about what it really means to be a friend and the compelling impact of friends in our lives. He said, “Friends are people who make it easier to live the gospel of Jesus Christ.” This meaning has had lifelong influence in my life. In this message, looking for the good in someone else is the true meaning friendship. It is putting someone else first. It is to be absolutely sincere, trustworthy, and pure in every thing you do. Maybe it is the term commitment that unlocks the true essence of friendship.

Genuine friends have impact to those with whom they befriend  to "improve a little and be a better.” You can support each other. You can help each other. Your friendship with each other can have a lasting effect not only on the lives of those with whom you are friends with but also on youth of future to come.
